![]() LUCY GODWIN is an international contemporary artist described as when Basquiat met
Pollock. Lucy uses vigorous gestural markings,
text and high resolution colours working primarily in a Neo-Expressionist style. Lucy's favourite subject matter is figurative but she also dabbles in landscapes and abstracts. She is highly influenced by Basquiat, Abstract Expressionists and street art, and loves hip hop. |

Artist Statement Paint is hot blood, swirling, gushing
through my veins. Insemination of ideas is triggered by social injustice,
social commentary or the pure joy of colour. Gestation is short, labour
intense; hip hop tunes my midwife - in the zone, in the
flow. Paint erupts exuberant, tempered by the cool clarity of birth. The
infant creation is examined for defects. Limbs are strengthened, edges
intensified and colour reassessed to enable strength. Once swaddled, limited visitation is permissible. Adoption occurs at 12 to 18 months - emotional detachment always painful.
Some children are never permitted to leave. Au debut, je faissez mes toiles en français. Mon premier amour etait Matisse. I dated Picasso cautiously yet in awe. Then came my one true love, Basquiat...Je t'aime. Attendez moi. ©2011
