Skulls & Skeletons: ALIVE Art exhibition by Lucy Godwin

The SILK PURSE GALLERY ARTS CENTRE presents the work of Lucy Godwin in a solo show.

Opening reception Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 6 - 8 pm

Silk Purse Gallery: on the waterfront in Ambleside at 1570 Argyle Avenue, West Vancouver, BC

Gallery hours Tuesday to Sunday noon to 5 pm

Lucy Godwin’s Skulls & Skeletons:ALIVE! is a vibrant and fun look at the Afterlife, combining influences from New York street art and hip hop culture, Dia de los Muertos, and the Old Master himself, Leo da V.

Lucy’s style has been described as “Pollock meets Basquiat”. Lucy travels to New York and Mexico annually for inspiration. Manhattan’s YESsit Gallery owner Vane Bressar comments, “Lucy Godwin is on the ascent. She’s in touch with a raw undercurrent. The themes are universal, her gestures bold, her use of colour original. Some of her new paintings are reminiscent of Basquiat.”

Splash and Laugh with Lucy

Cause this ain’t your typical art class

Using alternative tools – think chopsticks and such – we’re gonna splash paint around to your heart’s content. I’ll give you guided exercises to warm up, and we’ll discuss nontraditional techniques – think Jackson Pollock – and then off you go!

There is no right or wrong way in art – only the process of creation.

Please come and meet new friends as you laugh, have FUN and create your own masterpiece in the ARTernatives funshop.

Lucy Godwin is a contemporary artist whose work has been described as “when Basquiat meets Pollock”. Lucy completed her art education at Emily Carr and is represented by Galería Mónica Saucedo in Mexico as well as showing at different Vancouver venues.
